FROM 7 P.M. AT THE GROVE TAVERN

All welcome. No previous experience of playing pool needed to be able to enter.

How will it work?

There will be a number of qualifying rounds. This won’t be real pool but the pool game ‘Killer’. For rules of Killer see below. This will add an element of chance into the qualifying rounds and will give everyone a chance to have a few visits to the table.

The number of qualifying rounds and the allocation of players to groups will be confirmed nearer the time once we have a better idea of numbers. The format should be flexible enough to allow people to turn up on the night but preference will be given to people who have pre-registered.

The winners of the qualifiers will go through to the final stages – at least semi-finals and a final of standard pool (dependent on time and the number of entrants).

What are the rules?

In summary, the rules of Killer are as follows:

Each player starts with 3 lives.

Players take it in turns to play one shot.

If at least one ball (excluding the cue ball) is potted, then the player does not lose a life.

If the black ball is potted, the player gains a life.

If the player fails to pot a ball or commits a foul, then the player loses a life.

An exception is the break, where a player does not lose a life if a ball is not potted.

Players continue to take turns – one shot each – until they have no lives left.

The winner is the last player to have at least one life remaining.

The standard rules of pool will apply for the last set of games. In most instances this should be clear but variants of the rules do exist, so the exact rules will be agreed on the night.

The overriding rule in all cases is that the referee’s decision is final.

Will there be food?

Yes, The Grove Tavern will be providing some grub, for which there’ll be a nominal charge of £1 per person. Each person who contributes to the cost of the grub will be entered into a draw to win a cash prize! So not only could you be crowned Twuddle Pool King at the end of the evening, you might also be going home with some moolah in your wallet!

Will there be drink?

Oh yes.

Register your interest

So that we can gauge the level of interest, would you please respond by leaving a comment on this post or by replying to @Richard_Nash on Twitter using the hashtag #twuddlepool.

This will help with the organisation of the qualifying rounds and allow us to give the pub an estimate of the amount of food required.

Look forward to seeing you all there.
