Celebrate Pancake Day with us at Café Divine in Castle Street, Tunbridge Wells, from 5pm to 7pm (ish!) on Tuesday 16th. Café Divine will be cooking up some delicious pancakes to help us celebrate Shrove Tuesday in style – some of the Twuddlettes have even promised to show us their skills with the frying pan!

Viv and Paul at Café Divine are donating any money raised from their sugar ‘n’ lemon pancakes to charity, so please come along and help support this event. And of course, they’ll also be serving their renowned coffee (surely the best in Tunbridge Wells?) plus tea and hot chocolate.

After we’ve had our fill, we’ll all be heading up to The Royal Wells for Twuddle. Should be a fun evening! Please feel free to bring friends and family – all are welcome!

Quite selfishly as I couldn’t make the actual xmas twuddle last week which sounded fantastic (although I little disappointed best beard wasn’t a category might have been in with chance), I would like to invite the #twuddle collective to a special xmas twuddle meetup and the High Brooms Tavern.

For those who do not know the High Brooms Tavern it is a unique pub is Tunbridge Wells, it is very much a locals pub but friendly, large and out of the way, most people have driven by it many times and never known it was there, mainly because they are concentrating on not crashing into the cars on the narrow one way system where it is located.

The High Brooms tavern is split into two parts the main bar is usually where the locals reside, the second area to the left as you walk in is a large area with a fixed seating area, a few tables and pool table. It has an opening onto the end of the bar where you are served, the bar serves the usual lagers and a single real ale, seem to remember it was an unusual one.

What makes this pub unique is the unusual objects hanging from the ceiling and walls, everything from a 1800’s diving helmet, an aeroplane propeller, some very old bicycles, a medieval style door size rack of spikes and much much more, most seems to be props as they are obviously made from balsa wood but the effect it very striking. If you have not been I wholly recommend popping in, its not the sort of place you would make an effort to go to very often if its out of your way but I know a few people who live around there who pop in now and again.

Date: Tuesday 22nd December
Time: From 7.30pm, until closing time
Place: High Brooms Tavern, 102 High Brooms Rd,Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN4 9BQ
Refreshments: Mince pies and Sloe gin (landlord permitting)

: For those traveling in by train, if running of course, or those who would prefer to get train from TW as its a fair walk down Upper Grosvenor Road, the High Brooms Tavern is 5 mins walk from High Brooms station. Out of station turn right follow instructions above.

On Tuesday evening, December 15th, we held the first Twuddle Awards Ceremony at the Royal Oak in Royal Tunbridge Wells. A great time was had by twenty or so Twuddlers, who scoffed mince pies, quaffed mulled wine and played erm… a thrilling game of pass the Xmas parcel.

But the real highlight of the evening was the actual awards themselves, with much anticipation as to who was going to get the trophies tantalisingly displayed on the mantlepiece throughout the evening.

The first award to be presented was for THE BEST CHRISTMAS AVATAR. Nominations were received for avatars by @daveybarnett @KentishFella @Richard_Nash @Chris_Maslin and @JustinSpain

The winner was @Richard_Nash ~ voted unanamous winner by the young panel of judges.

Second award was for THE BEST CHRISTMAS TWEET, hotly contested in the week prior to the award ceremony. Nominations were received for tweets by @SianyLou88 @SoniaDiamond @mrsankertw and @toddbrunner

The winner was @toddbrunner ~ thanks to a typically witty barrage of surreal tweets.

Next up was the award for the THE WEBSITE OF THE YEAR. The hopeful nominees were @ankertw (anke.blogs.com) @welovetw (www.eattunbridgewells.co.uk) and @daveybarnett (www.tunbridgewellsevents.co.uk). All three have excellent websites supporting the local community and it was difficult to choose just one site.

In the end we plumped for @daveybarnett (www.tunbridgewellsevents.co.uk) ~ Dave’s site required a huge amount of data input and management and a design that presented the information in a clear, concise manner. Since launching but a short time ago, Dave has been constantly improving and updating the site, and it is proving to be an invaluable resource for Tunbridge Wells residents. Well done Dave!

However, because the decision was so close, we feel we cannot let the moment pass without praising both of the other sites. anke.blogs.com is a truly amazing blog website with stunning photography and insightful reviews. Brilliantly designed and presented, it is a credit to the site’s creator @ankertw

Last but not least is www.eattunbridgewells.co.uk by @welovetw. Sporting a gorgeous, contemporary design, this is THE site to visit if you’re considering eating out in Tunbridge Wells. Again, the site was only launched recently… and we look forward to seeing it grow and evolve over the coming year.

The last award to be presented was the prestigious TWUDDLE ‘TW’ AWARD. The award is for special services to Twuttle and Twuddle ~ and this year’s winner, to his evident surprise, is @JustinSpain ~ for designing not only the Twuddle and Twuttle logos but also for supporting various members of the group with his graphic design expertise and enthusiasm. Thanks Justin, I hope you enjoy the award and you display it in pride of place in your home!

So that’s it for a year… or is it?

Rumours are already surfacing of more fun and shenanigans in the New Year. And has been pointed out to us, there are several categories which were not represented at the ceremony and perhaps should’ve been. Suffice to say we’re on the case and it is now very much a ‘watch this space’!

All that remains is to give a massive thanks for everyone who came to the Awards Ceremony. We hope you enjoyed yourselves and we look forward to seeing you at a Twuddle or Twuttle very soon!
